Welcome to Possum Bend,

It is summer, though you wouldn't know it as we have lit the fire to take the chill off the air. Today I am procrastinating as I set up this blog, staying inside out of the rain.

so for this first entry I will leave you with a poem and some images of where we live....

Pipi Gathering.
Exposed the mud flats lie,
A pock marked expanse
evidence of life spread across its face.
Tiny legs scurry in their haste
To seek safety from invaders.
At the water’s edge soft mud surrounds
those who venture near.
Autumn coolness pervades the inlet
Beneath the surface pipis lie burrowed.
Hands dig eagerly, searching
For the promised kaimoana.

Small fish swarm, curious, hungry.
Over, under, around.
Flashing bodies caressed
with wondering hands.
There is no fear
Nor wish to cause it.
More a feeling of peace,
of oneness with this world.
All thoughts of food are…
forgotten.
